Are YOU thirsty for more? Pepsi has a new logo!

Well, this is interesting. Or is it?

Pepsi have had a rebrand of their logo and have gone to quite some lengths to promote it across the world.

Giant cans being helicoptered into Cricket stadiums...

A supersized can is seen atop a building and digitally pouring its cola into a 3D screen...

Drones choreographed to make the logo in lights...

The list goes on.

My question is, was it necessary? Not just the excessive promotions but the design change altogether.

Lets look at the history of the brand design.

"In approaching the new design, we asked ourselves: how do we take everything we love about Pepsi and its past, and create something that transcends?" PepsiCo chief design officer Mauro Porcini told Dezeen.

"We designed the new visual identity to connect future generations with our brand's heritage, transcending everything we know and love about the brand to create something current and undeniably Pepsi."

To me it feels like they ran out of ideas and fell back on the design that was used when Pepsi was in it's hey day between the 50's and late 90's.

What do you think? Do you like it? Do you agree with Mauro Porcini?

Or like me, do you think it's a big waste of money?
